Ei Teresawa

Ei Terasawa, Ph.D. is a professor of Pediatrics in the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has been studying neurobiology of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons and the mechanism of puberty onset using non-human primates at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center. Although the concept that estradiol from the ovaries regulates GnRH release is well established, recent studies indicate that neuroestradiol locally synthesized and released in the hypothalamus is also a significant contributor for the preovulatory GnRH surge in primates. More recently, she was successful in generating GnRH neurons from human induced pluripotent as well as embryonic stem cells, which would open up new tools for studying fertility and sterility including establishment of a disease model for Kallmann Syndrome.
