Prof Julia Critchley

321-Critchley-Julia I am a Professor of Epidemiology at St. George’s, University of London, with 20 years of experience working in cardiovascular disease and diabetes epidemiology and public health. I hold a PhD in Epidemiology (Oxford University) and Masters in Public Health (University of London). My research programme focuses on the association between common chronic and infectious diseases such as diabetes (DM) and tuberculosis (TB), including developing methods to screen for DM in TB patients for the recent EC funded TANDEM consortium. In the UK, we have investigated the impact of diabetes on infection risks and outcomes using large datasets from primary care, finding that 1 in 6 infection related deaths or hospitalisation can be attributed to poor DM control. I also co-lead a project using mathematical modelling to estimate the population impact of increasing diabetes prevalence on TB control and the potential effects of structural and clinical interventions on future joint disease burdens.
